The University of Alabama’s JaMychal Green has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office Monday morning.
Green, a native of Montgomery, Ala., led the Crimson Tide to a pair of wins last week over Georgia Tech and Quincy. The 6-9 forward averaged 12.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in  the two games and scored 12 points with five boards in the Tide’s 88-77 win over Georgia Tech. He also connected on 64.7 percent (11-of-17) of his shots from the field on the week with half of his 12 rebounds coming off the offensive glass.

For the season, Green is averaging 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. He has scored in double-figures in four-straight games and five of his last six after posting a double-double in his collegiate debut with 17 points and 12 rebounds against Mercer. He is the first UA player to earn the award since Richard Hendrix did so three times during the 2005-06 season.

Green will attempt to add to his strong play of late with a pair of games this week against teams that boast a combined 26-1 record in Clemson and LSU. Green and the Tide will face Clemson at 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening in Clemson, S.C. before returning home to host LSU in the SEC opener at 12:30 p.m. on January 11 at Coleman Coliseum.
