Jones, Tide Fry Hokies

ATLANTA – In many ways, Alabama’s season-opening romp over Virginal Tech seemed like a Gene Stallings-coached Tide game. Playing the role of David Palmer was junior receiver/kick returner Christion  Jones. The offense struggled, but like Jay Barker back in the day, AJ McCarron did nothing to cost his  team the game. And, like all Stallings squads, the defense was saltier than a bag of pretzels. “Beamer Ball ...

Tide defense preparing for no-huddle

There’s only so much a college defense can do between seasons to prepare for the latest national rage, also known as the up-tempo, no-huddle offense. He added that McCarron’s role could expand. “We have some skill playe ...

Crimson rally falls short; White team wins A-Day

TUSCALOOSA – Alec Morris nearly pulled it off. He came up short on fourth down from the 11, and thus the mantra for the winning White squad was “Let them eat steak.” And maybe some cake. Morris took over down 17-14 after a T.J. Yeldon seven-yard touchdown run with 64 seconds left put the White squad (first offense, second defense) ahead. Morris completed passes of 22 yards to DeAndrew White and 36 to Chris ...
