DSC_0205Alabama Softball pitcher Jaclyn Traina and outfielder Haylie McCleney were both selected to the 2014 USA Softball Women’s National Team roster.  The two Crimson Tide representatives join Florida, Tennessee, Arizona and California as those that also sent multiple players to the final 2014 roster.  The 17 former and current players from all schools will participate in summer events as well as the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women’s World Championship.

Traina, a recent graduate of Alabama, ended her career for the Crimson Tide with 106 wins, and a 2.03 ERA. She started a total of 130 games, had 10 saves, and a career strikeout average of 7.91.  The Naples, FL native became the third player in school history to win over 100 games and was named a First Team All-American in 2014, making her the fifth four-time All-American in school history and the only one to earn three First Team honors. Traina earned her second career SEC Pitcher of the Year award in 2014.SReg_GM1_010

Sophomore Haylie McCleney competed on the junior national team last year as a freshman and is making her first appearance on the National Team.  The centerfielder from Morris, AL earned NFCA second team All-America honors and selected to the All-SEC second team as a freshman. She continued her outstanding play in 2014 as she was named to the NFCA First Team All-American making her just the third person in school history to earn First Team honors in her sophomore season and sixth to earn All-American honors in her first two seasons.  McCleney led the team with a .444 batting average .556 on base average and scored 70 of the Crimson Tide’s runs in 2014.  She also made the Top 10 Finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year award and the Capital One Academic All-American teams.
