Alabama Baseball defeats Georgia Southern in elimination game
Alabama baseball continues to win with good pitching, this time from Geoffrey Bramblett, in its third game of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional to defeat Georgia Southern 6-0. Today’s game was Alabama’s second elimination game and now lives on for a rematch against Kennesaw State. The Georgia Southern Eagles suffered their first loss of the regional last night after a long rain delayed game against the Owls.
Bramblett threw his first complete game of his career and first post season win giving him a 5-2 record for the season. The freshman allowed two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts on the day. Through the first 6five and a half innings Bramblett retired 14 straight GA Southern batters and 15 of 16 through the sixth. “When you get in that loser’s bracket certain guys have to step up, and today Geoffrey Bramblett was outstanding on the mound,” Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard said. “He gave us just what we needed and that was a complete game and had a tremendous outing.
The Alabama offense continued to put the bat on the ball with nine hits in the game led by Ben Moore who went 3-for-3 including two doubles, three RBI, a walk and a run scored. Mikey White was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Georgie Salem was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Wade Wass, Austen Smith, Kyle Overstreet and Casey Hughston all singled in the game and Chance Vincent had an RBI and scored a run.
“Offensively, Ben Moore gave us some really good at-bats”. Gaspard said. “We got an early lead and were able to stretch it out”
Alabama will face Kennesaw State in a rematch game later today at 4PM Central. Alabama must defeat the Owls two times in order to advance to the super regionals.
