No. 12 Alabama Baseball takes on Samford before hosting weekend series against No. 5 Florida

The Alabama Baseball team travels to Birmingham on Wednesday to take on the Samford Bulldogs for the second time this season.  The Crimson Tide defeated the Bulldogs 12 – 1, when the teams met in Tuscaloosa on March 11. Alabama is 92-15 all-time versus Samford and has defeated the Bulldogs in six straight games including the last three games UA played at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

After postponing the game by a day due to weather, first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Wednesday with freshman Geoffrey Bramblett getting his third start of the season. The right handed pitcher has made 13 appearances so far on the season and is 3-1 with a 3.77 ERA.

The Tide, now 29-15 and 13-7 in the SEC is coming off a SEC series loss against South Carolina which also caused the Tide to drop a few spots in the rankings from number 8 to 12.  Alabama didn’t have a strong series at the plate while in South Carolina as the Tide was out-scored 19-8 and never scored more than three runs while dropping two out of the three games. Over the last 10 games, Alabama is hitting .305 and maintains sixth place in the SEC with a .281 batting average on the season. Averaging 5.3 runs and 9.6 hits per game has helped the Tide to its 28-5 record when scoring three or more runs but fell short in this statistic against the Gamecocks.   0005

Alabama was without one of its top starting pitchers this as Jon Keller was suspended for the weekend series against the Gamecocks. The junior didn’t make the trip to South Carolina for violation of team rules which may have contributed to the 19 runs scored against the Tide. Keller has clocked 60.33 innings and is 5-1 with a 1.94 ERA with 44 total strikeouts and one complete game.  He was reinstated on Monday Gaspard said.

No. 12 Alabama is tied for first place in the SEC West with No. 11 Ole Miss and leads No. 8 LSU by a half-game.  Following the mid-week out of conference game against Samford Alabama will host SEC leader No. 5 Florida, which holds a two-game lead over the rest of the SEC. First pitch is slated for 6.35 CT and the game will be televised on CSS. Game two of the series, which will be televised on CBS Sports Net, begins at 3:05 p.m. CT, and the series finale is set for 2:05 p.m. CT on Sunday and will be available on ESPN3/WatchESPN.
