Renewed focus as Alabama football spring training continues
The Alabama Football team hit the practice field this past weekend kicking off spring training. The Crimson Tide will go through 15 total spring practices with big question marks surrounding the quarterback position as well as on both sides of the line. However, with three practices down the one glaring observation to be made is how the players and coaches feel about how the season ended and what are they doing differently to change it. Losing to Auburn and Oklahoma and the way the losses came about has refocused the team in a way to emphasize unity, details and vision. “I think we lost some focus on the smaller things, like connecting with each other,” Cooper said. “We’d been winning a lot. I guess we got accustomed to winning and lost sight of the small things.”
Senior Trey DePriest added to Cooper’s statements with “Guys are just a lot more hungry, we didn’t finish the season like we wanted to. Guys knew that and they just took a different approach to it, and are trying to get back to the standard to how we do stuff.”
So even with question marks around specific positions and how Saban and staff will fill the large holes left at QB (McCarron), linebacker (Mosely), O-line (Kouandjio, Steen) and others Saban is more concerned right now with the vision and focus of the team. The renewed focus of Saban and staff is taking hold as the team appears to be more determined and more engaged in working on the details. “This year I find the players are really more focused in terms of the things we need to believe in, the things we need to do, whether it’s hard work, discipline, finishing plays, paying attention to details,” Saban said. “The kind of things that make big differences in close ballgames.”
