No. 1 Cornerback Marlon Humphrey commits to Alabama
On Wednesday morning the No. 1 cornerback in the nation committed to Alabama. The 6-1, 180-pound Marlon Humphrey from Hoover High School in Birmingham was ranked as the top prospect by all four of the major recruiting services. He is also rated as the No. 10 overall recruit in the nation and marks Alabama’s 25th commitment for the Class of 2014.
Humphrey used Social Media to announce his commitment to Alabama:
“Thanks for everyone that has supported me this far I’m happy to say I am committed to the University of Alabama!! #RollTide”
11:31 AM – 29 Jan 2014
Approx four minutes later the official Hoover High School Twitter account confirmed the announcement:
“Congrats to@marlon_humphrey on his commitment to @AlabamaFTBL ! Proud of you Marlon!!@hhsbusby @terry_tsmith @Jennifer_Hogan @bhaynHHS”
11:35 AM – 29 Jan 2014
Humphrey will be joining the No. 2 rated cornerback from Texas, Tony Brown, who is already enrolled at the University. Brown, who had a brief run-in with Tuscaloosa Police earlier this month, joins the Alabama Track team and finished fourth in the 60-meter dash in Kentucky last Saturday.
While Brown was in Kentucky debuting with the Track and Field team, his now soon to be teammate Humphrey took his official visit to Alabama. Apparently that was all it took for Humphrey to make his final decision to join what is expected to be another top ranted recruiting class for Alabama. Humphrey was also considering Florida State, where he officially visited on the 18th of January with his family before driving to Tuscaloosa for a quick unofficial visit on Sunday night the 19th.
The Hoover standout logged 35 tackles and three interceptions as a senior at Hoover while helping to lead the Bucs to a 6A state championship.
Not only will the No. 1 and No. 2 rated cornerbacks in the 2014 class compete with one another on the football field but Humphrey also plans to run track at the University.
