Alabama “Hands It” To The Receivers
The Crimson Tide has been nothing short of exceptional with their wide-outs. The receiving group, arguably, is Alabama’s deepest position in years and A.J. McCarron is equipped with many weapons this season. This weaponry has presented big problems for their opponents secondary.
Seniors Kenny Bell and Kevin Norwood have been dependable throughout their careers at Alabama. Norwood, who has played exceptionally well this season, had a great start to his senior season. On the season, he has accumulated 9 receptions for 103 yards, and has shown to be one of McCarron’s favorite targets. McCarron has looked for him time and time again to make a dynamic play, like his touchdown grab in the front of the end zone during the Texas A&M game. Likewise, Kenny Bell has tallied 7 receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown this season. He seems to have a niche for getting away from his defenders and speeding down the sidelines for touchdowns. McCarron looks to him when throwing the deep ball.
DeAndrew White is another player that McCarron depends on. He plays practically every play and is an athletic wide-out who also possesses the speed to breakaway from defenders. He has been another player McCarron targets when throwing the deep ball. White is talented enough to make the big plays when needed and has proved thus far this season with 11 receptions for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Amari Cooper appears to be experiencing somewhat of a sophomore slump. He has 9 receptions for 100 yards and no touchdowns. Tide fans should not be discouraged for Cooper had a slow start beginning last season, but finished the season with 59 receptions for 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns. There were five games in which he had over 100 yard games, all of which came after week 5. Last season, he ignited college football and is sure to do the same after he is completely healed from his injury.
The surprise treat of the season is the emergence of, Junior Receiver, Christian Jones. He has always been a standout at punt returner but he also has become the Tide’s most reliable receiver. In every game Alabama has “struggled”, Jones has emerged and ignited the Tide to a win. This season he has 17 receptions for 210 yards and 1 touchdown. Jones is swift and has the hands to be relied on all season.
The Crimson Tide has many receivers which all has been blessed with something special to create a dynamic threat. All of this proves that this may be Alabama’s deepest receiving group in years. Tide fans are fortunate to have so reliable receivers with tons of game experience. Crimson Tide fans can expect another successful season and has to admit that they have to hand it to the receivers.
