Tide Practice Report – Georgia State Week
Its Homecoming week at The Capstone and Alabama heads into its (technically) third day of practice but really only its second full day of the week in preparation for the Georgia State Panthers. Coach Nick Saban gave the team a rehab day called a “stretch-and-stride” rather than a typical practice on Monday. Tuesday was the typical full-pad workout as well where the Tide started to turn their attention to not only their opponent but primarily inward on themselves.
In Wednesday’s SEC teleconference the focus for the week ”We really need to get better,” Saban said. He went on to say that “the focus has to be on everybody getting better, on fundamental improvement, ability to do things a certain way and take them to the game that way based on how you practiced on,”
Tuesday’s practice saw Chad Lindsay running with the first-team as center as Ryan Kelly was not in attendance due to his stretched MCL. Lindsay is taking full advantage of the opportunity as Kelly is out for the next two-three weeks. He looks forward to his first career start while soaking up the extra attention, deservedly so “It definitely gave me a lot of confidence and everything,” Lindsay said. “I think it gave more confidence to my teammates that I was out there playing with. It was good to get the win and it was good to be out there.”
T.J. Yeldon looks to be over his “butt-bruise” from last Saturday taking the usual reps while all of the freshman running backs were wearing scout team jerseys. Derrick Henry and Altee Tenpenny wore No. 22 (Jonathan Jean-Bart) while Alvin Kamara andTyren Jones wore No. 21 (Travis Evans).
Dillion Lee saw some time with the outside linebackers on Tuesday and continued to work with the linebackers on Wednesday. Lee has played very well while on the special teams the past couple of weeks and is proving that he could be solid contributor on defense.
Linebacker Reuben Foster has consistently changed his mind over the past 2 years and today is no different as he changed his jersey to No. 9 and wearing No. 2 all fall camp and first part of the season.
Saban continued to work with the DB’s as he normally does with pass defending drills and bump and runs.
Injured: Nick Perry was in attendance in a sling after having surgery on his shoulder and will miss the rest of the season. Ryan Kelly, Dakota Ball and Dalvin Tomlinson continue to go through their rehabilitation away from the practice fields.
Saban will address the media following practice for the last press conference of the week.
