Tide Basketball Drowned The Bulldogs
It’s been raining around here for over a week now and as the Crimson Tide traveled to Starkville, MS tonight they were also raining the three’s to get the win. I’m sure Anthony Grant had to use boats just to go those 80-some-odd miles to “The Hump” but however he got there the Tide, like the weather, rolled 75-43.
As the Tide arrived on campus of the Bulldogs there was a campus wide power outage. S, while Alabama had expected to get out on the court and shoot around for a couple of hours it just wasn’t possible until about 45 min. before tip-off. But that didn’t seem to bother Sophomore forward Nick Jacobs who had a career-best 16 points in the contest.
Alabama lead by eight going into the half and seemed to be very aggressive on defense. Coach Anthony Grant made the statement after the game that what made the difference in the game was “Defending”. He was referring to the play of the Alabama defense in the first half and then defending the lead in the second while getting the offense cranked up.
When the Tide came out in the second half they went on a 27-3 run with about 16:50 to go in the game and never looked back. Trevor Lacy, Rodney Cooper, and Levi Randolph were draining the three’s to start the half and get the big lead. Going up 30 points around the 10:00 mark left in the game Alabama was making 90% of their shots and went ahead 59-29.
Sophomore guard Levi Randolph led the Tide with 18 points, which tied his career-best, followed closely by sophomore guard Rodney Cooper’s 17 points and sophomore guard Trevor Lacey added to the total with 11 points. Junior guard Trevor Releford was sidelined with an injury but is expected to play against Texas A&M on Saturday.
The Crimson Tide is now 10-6 overall and 2-1 in Southeastern Conference play while the Bulldogs fall to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the SEC.
Alabama returns home Saturday, Jan. 19 against Texas A&M. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. CT and will be televised by Fox Sports Net and aired on Crimson Tide Sports Network.
