Alabama and Notre Dame take the field in the beautiful Sun Life Stadium in South Miami, FL. It was 73 degrees with 81% humidity at kick-off and each team and fan base was amped to get this game under way.
Alabama scores on it’s first 3 possessions of the game to make the score 21-0 with 14:56 left in the second qtr. The Crimson Tide ran the ball, passed the ball, and pretty much did what ever they wanted until around 11:00 min left in the first half. That mark was when the Irish ‘D’ finally made a couple of plays (with the help of a holding call on the Bama line) to make the stop. The rest of the half was back and forth for each team until the final drive of the half for Alabama (and the half). That’s when the Crimson Tide got the ball in their own 29 and goes 71 yards for another Tide Touchdown. There was a little show for the 4th touchdown of the half though. McCarron passes the ball the Eddie Lacy, who catches the ball around the 6 yard line, and then, he makes the Notre Dame defender look silly as Lacy does his signature spin move to make Irish DB grasp for air.
Scoring Drives for the Tide:
5 Plays, 82 Yards, 2:57 (min/sec) – Eddie Lacy rushes for 20 yards for the TD.
10 Plays, 61 Yards, 4:49 (min/sec) – McCarron pass complete to Michael Williams for a 3 yard TD.
8 Plays, 80 Yards, 4:26 (min/sec) – TJ Yeldon rushes behind Jessie Williams for 1 yard and the TD.
9 Plays, 71 Yards, 3:12 (min/sec) – McCarron pass complete the Eddie Lacy for 11 yards (plus the signature spin move)
1st Half Stats:
Alabama had 41 plays for 309 yards while Notre Dame had 25 plays for 124. Side Note: ND only had 23 yards in the 1st qtr and 0 first downs.
