Wednesday practice report

Hurricane Isaac may not have made its way into much of Alabama, but gusty winds and the threat of rain from the storm forced the Crimson Tide to practice inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tide did not have a lot of shuffling beyond the situations that have become the norm over the course of the past few weeks. No players wore black, no-contact jerseys when the Tide went through drills during the media observation period.

Freshman wide receiver Amari Cooper, who was listed as the primary backup for sophomore receiver DeAndrew White on the Tide’s two-deep depth chart, did not appear to be hampered by a foot injury he sustained earlier in fall camp.

Junior running back Eddie Lacy continues to recover from a sprained knee and ankle, but he too seemed to be moving around nicely and should be quite healthy when the Tide takes the field on Saturday to open its season.

Backup center Ryan Kelly, who has been sitting out during drills with a sprained ankle, was able to move back into his second-unit spot on Wednesday as Chad Lindsay shifted out.

One player that has not been mentioned too often during the offseason but has a chance to contribute in a significant manner is sophomore wide receiver Christion Jones. He is coming off a phenomenal performance in the BCS National Championship Game and appeared to become a mainstay as a favorite target for quarterback AJ McCarron.

The Tide will likely go through drills on Thursday afternoon inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility.
