Wednesday evening practice report

The Alabama Crimson Tide continued fall practice on Wednesday evening with the final two-a-day practice session of fall camp. The Tide practiced in 73-degree conditions.

There were no players in black, no-contact jerseys on Wednesday evening. Throughout fall camp, the Tide has been able to manage to escape having players with lingering injuries that would require them to wear black jerseys. However, sophomore linebacker Adrian Hubbard and freshman linebacker Ryan Anderson continued to have their respective injuries, elbow and wrist, wrapped. Anderson’s wrist was in a cast.

Sophomore Brent Calloway continues to appear as a potential weapon at the H-back position. Calloway spent time at running back and linebacker before being moved to H-back in the spring, and he has moved steadily up the pecking order and may find himself in a position to compete for playing time when the 2012 season opens. Fellow H-back Briang Vogler commented in the spring that Calloway’s speed and skills with the ball in his hands make him a unique threat at the position.

The secondary went through recognition drills with what appeared to be the first-string dime defense. Players on the field included cornerbacks Dee Milliner, John Fulton, Deion Belue, safeties Robert Lester, Vinnie Sunseri and Ha’Sean Clinton-Dix. Nico Johnson and C.J. Mosley manned the linebacker positions.

When the units switched, the second-team appeared to consist of Jabriel Washington, Geno Smith and Bradley Sylve at the cornerback spots, Trey DePriest at linebacker, and newly converted safety Eddie Williams working alongside freshman Landon Collins and sophomore Nick Perry.

The Tide will continue practice on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
